I like soccer because I was lucky enough to play on a really good soccer team back in the day.
On a TRUE team: The Dayton Triangles.
We had an exceptional coach – Jim “Donut” Droulias, a Greek immigrant and U.S. Air Force veteran, and a very motley crew of players that eventually became brothers.
These two photos are from back then: 1. Teammates Bob, and Daryl Jones, and 2. Our team just before the Ohio State SAY Soccer Championship in Cincinnati:
We all look nervous, and we were (partly because the girl’s championship game was before ours, was tied and went into overtime. It kept going on, and on, and on)!
We won that game and I was lucky enough to score the first goal (via a bad pass I made that actually went into the goal)!
But, this blog isn’t about me or that great soccer team.
It is about Megan Rapinoe and The U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team, which recently won the FIFA World Cup Soccer Tournament.
Their team dominated most of the games they played, and were clearly the very best team there.
Great job, Megan and Team!
Megan Rapinoe, U.S. player and co-captain (#15) a deserves some special”Great Job” recognition because:
– She won the Golden Boot Award (the person that scores the most goals in the tournament)
– She won the Golden Ball Award (the most valuable player)
Congratulations, Megan and Team U.S.A..
You make us all proud.

Why don’t YOU share something about YOUR life, to inspire, empower, and improve a life?
You can do it!
PS: While it’s great to win and be “King”, one of the primary purposes of the World Cup is to bring countries together, to foster increased understanding and cooperation.
Toward that end, I say GREAT JOB to ALL the teams and ALL players at the World Cup. Just to qualify and represent your country at that level is an enormous accomplishment!
