What Matters in Life:
Warren Buffet is a GREAT American.
… Why?
Because he is extremely successful, humble, and (surprisingly) not greedy.
How Successful You Ask?
He’s worth $110 billion (yes, that’s with a “b”).
How Humble?
I heard him say once that to celebrate a business success, he would go out and: “… Buy two hamburgers, instead of one.”
(Just wait till In-N-Out Burger gets to Omaha, Nebraska where Warren lives – that might become 3 hamburgers)!
How Not Greedy?
He co-founded THE GIVING PLEDGE with Bill Gates in 2010.
What is that?
It is a pledge made by the super wealthy to give away at least half (50%+) of their wealth to charity before they die.
How much has Warren pledged of his wealth?
99%.
(Told you he wasn’t greedy).
A friend of mine once said: “Yeah, that’s great. But he is still gets to keep $1.1 BILLION!”
That dolt missed the point.
What Warren PROVES, is that it is possible to be super successful and also not be greedy.
Amazing, isn’t it?
Which is why I also wanted to share what Warren thinks is the most important thing in life, compliments of Inc. Magazine and Marcel Schwantes (article link is below):
Let me summarize Warren’s thoughts for you:
“… If you get to my age and nobody thinks well of you, I don’t care how big your bank account is – your life is a disaster.”
What a refreshing philosophy.
The Inc. Magazine article also includes:
“… In the biography THE SNOWBALL: WARREN BUFFET AND THE BUSINESS OF LIFE, a quote from Buffet raises the bar of success to a level that most of us are actually able to reach, if we put in the work. It will take, however, a willingness to serve humanity and do good in the world, so that others will remember you not by the size of your bank account, but by the size of your heart.”
And Finally:
“I know many people who have a lot of money, and they get testimonial dinners and they get hospital wings named after them. But the truth is that nobody in the world loves them. That’s the ultimate test of how you have lived your life. The more you give love away, the more you get.”
So true.
Isn’t that what everyone really wants in life? To feel love, to be loved and to be appreciated?
I think so.
THANK YOU, WARREN BUFFET, for being such a GREAT American and giving us your thoughts on what really matters in life.
If you lived near me, I’d buy you a stack of pecan pancakes for being so wonderful (those are actually from Pocahontas Pancakes in Virginia Beach). 🙂
What Matters in Life Summary:
Serve humanity and do good in the world, so that others will remember you by the size of your HEART, and not your bank account.
